A pop-up ready space that has been home to 200+ pop-up shops, exhibitions, and events since 2012. This minimalist space is a blank canvas for creativity. Located in Vancouver's vibrant Chinatown, this space has been transformed into an elopement style wedding chapel, the world's first café repelling wireless signals, and a handmade Japanese knife shop to name a few.
Neighbours of the space include Bestie, El Kartel, The Shop Vancouver, and Duchesse Vintage - all vibrant locally owned shops bringing a diversity of shoppers to the neighbourhood.
The Playground is available for pop-up shops, gallery exhibits, meetings. Please note that this space is no longer accepting event or party requests. Weekend pricing includes Friday-Sunday at $300/day. Read below for specific rules of the space.
Fixture rentals including racks are included in the booking. Please see photos for details and floor plan.
We provide a 5% discount to all registered non-profits and charities.

Please respect our neighbours; noise curfew is 10pm (this means guests have left and music is turned off).
We allow alcohol in the space, but need a Special Occasion License sent to us before the start date of the booking. We allow catering as well, but keep in mind any spills or stains need to be completely cleaned up before you leave the space. We don't charge a cleaning fee but ask that you clean up after your booking and leave it in the same condition it was found. Additional cleaning required after the booking is subject to an additional cleaning fee of $150.
All garbage and recycling must be taken with you at the end of the day. There is a garbage bin in the alley you will be provided a key for. ANY garbage left in the space is subject to a $50 penalty.
We allow small nails in the wall, but ALL holes must be filled by the end of the booking (tools/equipment provided). Any holes or marks left of the wall after the booking that aren't cleaned up are subject to an additional cleaning fee (amount is dependant on damage).
The rail lights in the ceiling are not to be moved.
The space is very cool but the pictures set high expectations of cleanliness and brightness that were not met. We had to clean for about an hour upon arrival to make it presentable to our guests, including cleaning a pretty gross bathroom situation. The walls need a sand and a new coat of paint - the fresh whites of the pictures are not accurate. The “thisopenspace” sign on the door is broken, which adds to the slightly dilapidated look.
Booked the space for a day, was having problems with the lights but Boris was quick to respond and sent a technician to check it out. Would rent this space again.
good space for popup!
Solid turn-key space for a pop-up. Not much foot traffic in the winter so best for destination events or heavily promoted events. Easy to get in / lock up as entry is all code locks. Boris was very responsive. Cold in the winter they have space heaters but it’s not sufficient. Better heating is required.
Everything was easy. Questions were answered promptly. I recommend the space.
amazing space! Perfect for what I needed. It's great that they have a ladder in the back room.
Great space for exhibiting art. Recommend
Great Space! Boris, the landlord, was very professional. Everything was straight forward, one of the easiest setups we ever had. If you do an event here, you should promote your location. There is some foot traffic, but the majority of customers we had came from our promotions. Thumbs up for "The Playground"
I used the space for two full months and found it to be exactly what I needed. Boris was a joy to work with and the room was like an unpainted canvas just waiting for me to be creative. I'll use it again...in fact, I have it booked already for 2020
The Playground is a great space that can be used for a wide range of events. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to put on a pop-up shop, an exhibition, or even a music showcase.
