Ocean Breath Yoga
Granville Island - Vancouver, BC
Meetings, Events, Retail, Production
Ocean Breath Yoga Studio is a beautiful and bright studio located on Granville Island (the second busiest tourist destination in all of Canada) and yet it is in one of the quietest sections of the island where people tend to slow down and enjoy the views. There are no cars, only boats, bikes and feet.
The studio is located in what is known as the Maritime Market and faces the marina. The whole front wall is window and the view is walkway, grass, water and boats. Facing southwest, it enjoys each and every sunset and is light all day, even when it rains. The studio itself is just a few steps up from the walkway and has its own small patio. Inside you will find the original cedar posts of this 100 year old building. The floor is Maple laminate and the ceiling slants, going from 10 feet to approximately 15 feet in height making it very airy and light. One large wall has been left blank making it useful for presentations. There is a small open office at the back that can be used if a facilitator needs some private space. The bathroom is large enough to be used for a change room. If needed there is also a key for the marina showers just outside around the corner.
The studio is equipped with mats, bolsters, blocks, chip foam blocks, blankets (wool and cotton) and straps. As well you will find a bin with golf balls and tennis balls for rolling and some eye pillows. There are also a few chairs available for those who cannot use the floor. The sound system can be plugged into or used with Bluetooth. For anyone working with sound, the acoustics are fantastic.
One of the perks of being on Granville Island is that there is ample 3 hour free parking, (if your event will be longer there are numerous large paid parking areas so that cars do not have to be moved). As well parking is limitless after 7pm. There are many transit lines close by (the #50 drops off at the top of the island) and it is also serviced by AquaBus and False Creek Ferries. To add variety you can create an event which incorporates other aspects of the island. For example, in the same building, you will find a caterer, and just down the walkway is The Vancouver Fish House. Maybe you are creating a sound journey, talk to Gandharva Lokha in the Net Loft about their amazing selection of instruments. Or combine an event such as yoga with a rental of kayaks from Eco Marine or learn to sail with Ocean Breath Coastal Adventures. The possibilities are endless from art, to plays, to music and food and outdoor fun. During the summer months there is a Thursday Farmers Market and many festivals. During the year events that such as PUSH, The Fringe Festival, and Winterruption, (to name a few) can be tied to studio events. You will find all the Island businesses very open to collaboration. It is a unique and vibrant atmosphere.
Ocean Breath Yoga can accommodate up to 50 people standing, about 40 seated, for practices such as meditation suggested maximum 30 and for yoga practice up to 15 depending on the style of practice.
